Sonic 3D and on the XBOX 360
However, when the gamers finally go to try out the X BOX 360 game they were a bit disappointed. The game was not ported to the new technology very well and the stress was showing at the seams. Here was a game that was developed for a 2D environment and now it was in 3D and on a cutting edge platform. The adaptation had not gone very smoothly.
In trying to keep Sonic true to his roots, Sega had tried to keep everything as untouched as possible. So it was almost like they took the 2D Sonic and made him in to a 3D version of himself. However, it was not like gamers were too disappointed to play. To avid fans and gamers, the benefits far outweighed the shortcomings.
The pleasure of seeing Sonic in 3D was something that gamers simply could not get enough of. The rich visuals were keeping them addicted as Sonic traversed through landscapes at blurring speeds. That would have been enough but the new Sonic was also made to be more aggressive. He had new moves like the spinning kick and other spinning attacks. Watching him demolish the enemies with his signature spin dash move in complete 3D was enough for most gamers to go and buy the game. In this game, Sonic got an extra life if he could destroy a lot of baddies all in one go.
The game play was challenging though. The controls were far from simple and the third dimension added a lot of unforeseen complexities and difficulties. The game involved Sonic traveling over different terrains in different vehicles. There was the buggy like vehicle that was fitted with machine guns and also a hang glider and a hovercraft.
The storyline was interesting and fun to play. The entire game was played in three parts within one main character in each part. So it started with Sonic, then came Shadow the Hedgehog and then a brand new character was introduced to the game Silver the Hedgehog. Silver has a new ability he can pick and throw objects at his enemies. He is slower than Sonic but he is able to travel over a greater distance than Sonic, which is a very interesting addition.
All the new additions to the game are almost destroyed by the pathetically slow load times. The camera angles are also not up to the mark and definitely need some tweaking.
Even through all that, the game is able to hold its own within a tough and demanding market.
